1/ Introduction with some global market data (cf. table 1): Using the data published in the very valuable ITC annual bulletin one can see that concerning quantities, I.e. tonnages: ◆China is number 1 tea producer since 2004 thus catching up and taking over from India, ◆ China is the biggest, if not only producer of special teas, ◆ China is the second biggest tea consumer in the world just after India, ◆ For world exports of tea China has also overtaken India since year 2000 and is now second only to Sri Lanka and Kenya, ◆The EU consumes only about 15% of the world tea exports, the leading suppliers being Kenya, India and Sri Lanka, followed by China,
