Performance Analysis of Type-Ⅲ HARQ Scheme in Cross-Layer Design for QoS-Guaranteed Traffic
This paper is concerned with a cross-layer design for quality-of-service (QoS)-guaranteed traffic. In order to satisfy the prescribed packet loss rate and average delay, as well as to maximize the throughput, the novel design jointly exploits the error-correcting capability of the Type-III hybrid automatic repeat request (HARQ) protocol at the data link layer and the adaptation ability of the adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) scheme at the physical layer. The queuing behavior induced by both the Type-III HARQ and AMC is analyzed with an embedded Markov chain. The closed-form expressions for performance metrics such as packet loss rate, throughput and average delay are derived.
