State of Art of Compacted Concrete Face Rockfill Dams

1 IntroductionThe development of concrete face rockfill dams is well commented in the technical literature.Cooke. Initially dumped rockfill was used with problems of leakage and deformation of therockfill which caused excessive stresses in the concrete face slab and rupture of the compressionjoints. The transition to compacted rockfill occurred during early 60s when in Europe was developedthe vibratory compactor roller. Some concrete and asphalt face dams were built with compactedrockfill and excellent performance.
