DAMAGE COUPLED THERMO-HYDROLOGIC-MECHANICAL MODEL FOR ROCK FAILURE PROCESS ANALYSIS

Based on knowledge of heterogeneity of rock at the mesoscopic level, a micromechanical model is proposed to study the deformation and failure process of rock subjected to coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical loading using elastic damage mechanics, thermal-elastic theory and seepage mechanics. In this numerical model, elastic damage mechanics is used to describe the constitutive law of meso-level elements, the finite element method is employed as the basic stress analysis tool and the maximum tensile strain criterion as well as the Mohr-Coulomb criterion is utilized as the damage threshold. The damage and associated mechanical properties evolution of mesoscopic elements in rocks subjected to THM loading were discussed. And a numerical test was run with RFPA code to validate the proposed model. With the validation, another numerical simulation was conducted to investigate the damage and failure process of a rock pillar subjected to coupled thermo-hydro-mechanical loading.
