A COMPREHENSIVE SOLUTION FOR THMC-COUPLED PROCESSES IN THE FIELD OF NUCLEAR WASTE DISPOSAL-APPLICATION OF THE NUMERICAL TOOLS GINA/ROCKFLOW TO THE CHINESE BEISHAN SITE

A fully THMC-coupled numerical code RockFlow with a powerful pre-/post-processing tool GINA has been developed for the calculation of the evolution and the distribution of temperature, pressure/saturation, stress/deformation, and concentration of chemical components in fractured porous media. Wide practical applications covering geothermal energy, underground gas storage, groundwater management, and disposal of radioactive waste have proven the capability of the code. Within a Chinese-German co-operation program, a geological model has been built based on the data from the Chinese Beishan site, the potential repository site for radioactive HLW disposal. Site scale groundwater movement in the fracture network has been analysed using a 3-dimensional finite element modelling. The scenario analysis of radionuclide transport processes in the fracture/matrix system and thermal-hydro-mechanical coupled calculations in the near-field as a prerequisite for the design and construction of a repository have been investigated.
