A CHEMOHYDROMECHANICAL COUPLED SOLUTION FOR POROELASTIC CLAY BARRIER IN A RADIOACTIVE WASTE REPOSITORY
Salt rock is one of the preferred host media of the repository for the radioactive waste disposal, and high compacted bentonite is often selected as the buffer between the host media and waste canister. Due to rich clay content of the bentonite buffer, chemically induced volume change is generated because of the chemical concentration change. Coupled with this chemical phenomenon, the field governing equations are derived and solved within the framework of a linear, Biot-like poroelastic theory. The parametric study and numerical results highlight the influences of chemical deformation on the flow and mechanical fields.
