MODELING THM COUPLED PROBLEMS OF TASK D OF THE DECOVALEX PROJECT

This paper deals with the THM coupled problem arising from the nuclear waste disposal. The finite element method is adopted for the analysis of the problem. To this purpose, the objected oriented concept, which provides a flexible and easy maintainable coding environment, is introduced to the finite element programming of GeoSys/ROCKFLOW. The released load approach is presented for excavation simulation. Meanwhile, the coupled terms are treated by the meanings of staggered scheme. As an inception phase of TASK-D, this work concerns unsaturated flow fully coupled with heat transport and deformation. Both of two study cases, i) FEBEX type which has fully saturated surrounding rock mass and expansive bentonite buffer; ii) Yucca mountain type which has partially saturated and fractured surrounding rock mass, are simulated. The results can be compared with findings of other teams.
