TIME DEPENDENT FRACTURE GROWTH IN INTACT CRYSTALLINE ROCK:LABORATORY PROCEDURES AND RESULTS
This contribution summarises an extensive laboratory campaign that provides reference data for a numerical modelling study simulating time-dependent behaviour of saturated Aspo diorite in form of triaxial creep experiments and the development of new experimental methods to simply and economically determine the Mode I and Mode II subcritical crack growth parameters, n and A. From constant rate and constant load experiments on specimen populations the parameters are determined by a statistical method. The experimental set-ups are modified versions of methods to determine Mode I and Mode II fracture toughness, i.e. the notched three-point bending and Punch-Through Shear test. The laboratory campaign exhibits for Mode I conditions n=48 and -logA=24, for Mode II conditions n=94 and -logA=65.
