COUPLED HYDRAULIC-MECHANICAL STABILITY ANALYSIS OF UNSATURATED SOIL SLOPE UNDER RAINFALL INFILTRATION

The slope stability under rainfall infiltration is a typical hydraulic-mechanical subject. Aimed at this feature, the unsaturated governing equations, solution strategy for hydraulic-mechanical coupling by FEM is presented, and some problems about the nonlinear solution are discussed. Through the numerical simulation of a practical slope project under rainfall considering the excavation process, some important conclusions are drawn after analyzing the stress field and deformation field of the slope. The analysis shows that the deep as well as the surface of slope are saturated rapidly due to rainfall, and water infiltrates to the deep in slope. The pressure water head in some areas of slope increases to high level during the rainfall, and deteriorates the stability of slope. By comparison with the field condition of the slope, it shows the simulation results are reasonable and it is of importance in application to the analysis of slope stability.
