HM COUPLING 3D FEM ANALYSIS OF THE DONGQING DAM

Based on the theory of HM Coupling, the 3D nonlinear finite element method is applied to study the stress and distortion of Dongqing dam. The result shows that HM coupling is an unfavourable state. In this condition, the material strength will be reduced, and the deformation will be increased. This is disadvantage to the stability of dam slope. So its necessary to lower the saturation line of dam by using impervious core or impervious concrete slabs.
