THM COUPLING ANALYSIS OF TGPS SHIP-LOCK EMPTYING-BOX CULVERT

Emptying box culvert of Three-Gorges Projects permanent ship-lock is finished in 1997, some transverse cracks are discovered along axial box culvert on the concrete bottom slab. This paper presents a contradistinctive analysis of two different loads. Based on the basic principle of THM coupling, the concrete cracks of a typical TGPs ship-lock emptying box culvert are numerically simulated and analyzed using a nonlinear FEM in this study,the detailed construction procedures, initial temperature, placement temperature are also simulated. In contrast, the other analysis is carried out without considering coupling. The result shows the concrete is achieved to satisfy strength under the second circumstance. However, while taking into account the THM coupling, the tensile stress is larger than tensile strength, the concrete is failed to satisfy the strength, and some cracks are induced. The method offers a reference for crack analysis.
