Failure Prevention and Reinforcement of Levees in China

摘要：

This paper briefly introduces the present levee conditions in China. The main characteristics of those levees are indicated including poor foundation condition, poor quality of levee construction in the past and numerous ponds and lowland in the downstream areas. The treatment methods or techniques for solving problems of piping, seepage holes, leakage, slope sliding and bank collapse are also presented. Some other considerations are also indicated in levee construction, such as investigation before flood, monitoring, cost and environmental impact.
