AUTOMATED SYSTEM AND BEHAVIOUR OF SALTO CAXIAS RCC DAM
The Salto Caxias Dam is part of the last great hydroelectric exploitation of the Iguacu River, 1240 MW. The gravity constructed by the RCC process consists in a structure of concrete with section -roller compacted concrete, 945.600 m? with the beginning of the filling of the reservoir occurring in October, 1998. This report shows, briefly, the main aspects of the project instrumentation, through the analysis and interpretation of the collected data, showing the most significant results of the behavior of the dam. In the Salto Caxias Dam, equipment that use vibrating wire technology have been installed, whose reading and processing are effected by automatized system of attainment of data, in real time. It was the first dam in Brazil endowed with automatized instrumentation. The improvement of this instrumentation also being presented is the monitoring by geodesic auscultation. The application of Geodesic techniques in the monitoring of structures consists initially of establishing a geodesic net of points (called points of control), from which, using techniques of topographical and geodesic surveys, to determine the coordination point of interest (fictions and junctions of blocks) to be monitored. Considering the variation of the coordinates observed at different times of survey, possible displacements in the structure can be evaluated. The applied Geodesic techniques in this project consist of: Triangulation, Trilateration, Poligonation, first-class Geometric Levelling, Gravimetry and Positioning using GPS system. Now the project is in the collection phase of data and definition of mathematical models to be applied in the adjustment of the net of reference (already implanted) and determination of the coordination points to be monitored.
