Design of Dam Information System under 3DGIS Based on Nonlinear Numerical Analysis and its application

Monitoring data is the supporting data in traditional methods for dam safety evaluation. It is difficult, however, to adequately represent the dam and rock foundation reality only with monitoring data. In this paper, a dam information system is developed for facilitating safety evaluation and state monitoring. This system evaluates the safety of dam and its foundation based on the comprehensive results of nonlinear FEM analyses on stress/deformation, underground flow and temperature effects and uses the three dimension geographic information system (3DGIS) as an underlying platform to perform the desired complex functions such as management, visual search and data analysis. The architecture of the system, the structure of the database for FEM results, and the linkage of the database to the 3DGIS is presented. A primary version of the system is currently implemented and applied to Geheyan Dam as an aid for economical operation and safety running.
