Monitoring of Shock Wave and Gates Vibrating Induced by Blasting of Cofferdam at TGP

The second-phase downstream cofferdam at the Three Gorges project was one of major III –grade temporary structures for the project. This cofferdam was incorporated with flexible and plastic core walls with uneven thickness and quantities of steel pipes. It could not be neglectful of removing by blasting the concrete cut-off wall in the cofferdam because the dynamic pressure induced by blasting would cause tremendous threat to the nearby structures and metal works. Through deliberate planning and preparation and implementation, all monitoring data including water shock wave and dynamic strain of gates induced by blasting have been obtained successfully, gaining valuable experience for removing of the third-phase cofferdam at Three Gorges project.
