A Dielectric Constant Testing Method for Microwave PCB
This article addresses the importance of testing PCB dielectric constant and introduces three commonly used test methods: frequency measuring method, microwave perturbation method and capacitance comparison method. These methods are unsuitable for applying to PCB manufacturers in high-frequency microwave industry because the PCB is very thin in this application. Based on an equation establishing the relation between capacitance and dielectric constant, a new test method is put forward which tests the capacitance of the PCB first and then calculate its dielectric constant with the equation. Taking into consideration of the capacitance increase caused by the edge effect, the equation has been elaborately corrected. Test results show that this method is very accurate.
