Design and Manufacture of Embedded Resistor and Embedded Capacitor in PCB
Along with the fast development of high frequency and high speed electronics, as well as thinner, smaller PCB development trend, embedded component PCB performs well in the field. Embedded resistor and capacitor would represent this trend. Their common features are reducing power the noise, cross talk and EMI, shortening signal length, eliminating direct resistors and capacitors, decreasing soldered joints, improving wire density and reducing vias, increasing assembly reliability and shortening assembly time. Sheet resistance, Dk, heating distribution, E-test, and the change rate of resistor must be considered when using embedded resistor material. For sheet resistance, we will consider how to choose sheet resistance, etching control, resistor design, layout and resistance calculating. For Dk, we must concern the choice of substrate. For heating distribution, the relation of temperature rising and power distribution, material type, thickness and conductive factor will be taken in to account. We focus on capacitor and Dk selecting, material thickness, pattern design and transfer, layer stack up. When applying both of embedded capacitor and resistor, we have to face the problem of compatibility between design and technique, and it will be more difficult.
