Parity Information Placement in the Disk Array Simulation Model
With the goal to explore the influence of workload parameters on disk arrays performance,a dynamic, discrete event simulation model of disk array is developed. The model, based on modular,bottom-up approach, was initiated from a single disk, and then extended on disk array. The difference between simulated results and measurements (done on test arrays) vary between 1.05% and 1.7% depending on the simulated component and the workload type.In the model development process as an interesting issue emerged the placement of the parity information. In this paper several possible locations for parity information are explored,as well as their influence on model behavior. Finally, the optimal one (regarding simulation output, model complexity and simulation run time) is chosen.
