Simulation research on braking performance of hydra-dynamic torque converter and retarder based on automatic shifting rules

In this paper,vehicle-ground,engine,hydra-dynamic torque converter and retarder (TC-R) and gearbox are modelled.Aims at new application mode of TC-R,automatic shifting rules were considered as braking strength of is affected by the gear state of gearbox.Then,according the two schemas of transmission,simulations were carried out in Matlab/Simulink.The results showed that to improve the braking performance of TC-R,the gearbox should shift to lower gear state as early as possible and an increasing-speed box should be added between engine and TC-R for protecting engine and satisfying the braking performance.
