An Interactive Approach to Constructing Virtual Environments
Although VE has manifested itself as a new medium with impressive effect of three dimensional computer graphics, constructing a new VE completely from scratch remains a laborious and pain-taking process and it is emerging as the bottleneck problem for VE popularity. This research aims to encourage VE developers to shift away from conventional “system engineering process by presenting an interactive approach for constructing VEs through the implementation of an OpenSource industrial scripting language Tcl/Tk.Further more, this research has explored the boundary between system programming, interpretative computing, interfaces wrapping, abstracted scene-graph libraries, grouping and database technology. The convergence of ideas from these technological fields has formed a systematic approach by which developers are encouraged to design and implement 3D interactive graphics via making necessary reconfiguration to both graphical content and rendering context take place at system runtime. The approach has been further developed as a rapid prototyping toolkit for users to design, build and manipulate virtual reality models and scenarios in an effortless and time saving process.
