Practical approach for the Analysis of Decentraliced Control for Multivariable Processes
One of the main issues in the control of multivariable processes are the e.ects generated by interaction terms. It is well known that the o.-diagonal terms in the matrix transfer functions introduce interaction e.ects that are to be taken into account at the controller design stage. The use of a full multivariable controller is a possible option to deal with such interaction terms. However decentralized (diagonal) control is often the preferred option. When decentralized control is to be used,it is of primary importance to have knowledge of the constraints imposed by local designs into the behavior of the overall system.Special attention has to be paid to the potential instability caused by interaction e.ects generated by the control action on the other loop. This paper provides an analysis by means of an interaction measure de.ned in terms of the expected interaction to be generated into the control systems in terms of the desired speci.cation for the local control loops.
