OFDM Peak Power Reduction Using Phase Reversal and Combination with PTS
The major drawback of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) systems is the high peak to average power ratio (PAPR), which significantly limits the power efficiency of the operating power amplifier to avoid nonlinear distortions. Recently a PAPR reduction scheme called the metric based amplitude predistortion (MBAP) with low complexity has been proposed. In this paper, we propose a phase reversal scheme which uses the same metric as in the MBAP scheme to reduce PAPR. The proposed scheme utilizes the metric to determine some input symbols to reverse their phases by 180 degrees to achieve PAPR reduction without increasing the input power. In addition, we develop a combination scheme which appropriately combines the phase reversal scheme with the conventional partial transmit sequence (PTS) scheme. Simulation results indicate that the proposed phase reversal scheme and combination scheme can effectively improve the performance of the MBAP and PTS schemes.
