An Efficient Way to Support SNMP in the ForCES Framework

ForCES (Forwarding and Control Element Separation) and the associated protocols introduce a new architecture for construction of a distributed Network Element (e.g., distributed routers). ForCES requirement indicated that ForCES must support standard network management (e.g., SNMP) in ForCES framework. In this article, an efficient way to support SNMP in ForCES is proposed. On the other hand, as a large-scale reconfigurable distributed device, ForCES NE (Network Element) has many large dynamic MIB tables to be accessed. An improved way to access large dynamic MIB tables in the ForCES framework is proposed to enhance the performance. Our experiment shows that our solution can not only validate the feasibility for ForCES architecture to support SNMP, but also bring lesser response time to access dynamic MIB tables compared with the traditional way.
