A Heuristic Model of Production Planning Decision and Its Application

Production Planning has been widely used in manufacturing systems. In traditional model, the analytic formation of cost and profit functions should be determined in advance. In practice, economies of scale and sales discount usually exist. So, it is difficult to describe cost and profit functions using analytic formula. For dealing with this problem, based on Multi-Agent System (MAS), the paper presents a Heuristic Production Planning (HPP) model that is independent of the specific analytic formation of cost and profit functions. To solve the model, a heuristic algorithm based on Particle Swarm Optimizer (PSO) is developed. In case study, HPP model applied to a brick manufacturing factory is built and solved by the heuristic algorithm. As an experimental system, a software prototype has been developed. Numerical examples and computation results are provided by applying the software prototype on some products data.
