Application of Creative Thinking Techniques to Business Process Reengineering

Since the Business Process Reengineering (BPR) concepts involve the fundamental rethinking and radical redesign of the business process to achieve dramatic improvements in critical measures of performance, it needs a thorough understanding of the existing system’s behavior and often requires creative problem solving in addition to modeling. This paper presents a creativity process for redesign using creative thinking techniques. First, Brainstorming is used to bring out the ideas of each individual and present them in an orderly fashion to the rest of the team. Then, large amounts of ideas are organized into groupings based on their natural relationships with an Affinity Diagramming. And, we prioritize the ideas in each group with Nominal Group Technique (NGT). An example is illustrated to demonstrate the usefulness of the process.
