Service System Design for Mass Customization: Review and Prospects
The paper conducts a thorough review of two research domain: the service system design and mass customization. The review intend to present clear pictures of research evolution in both areas and identify a necessity for integrating these two areas, namely adopting the concepts of mass customization to guide the service system design to cope with the traditional operation dilemma: either mass production or customization. This could lead to a new research area for exploration with both great industrial and academic significance. The paper finally presents some brief research suggestions to stimulate further research efforts in terms of both research content and methodology.
