Supplier Selection and Evaluation Criteria on Supply Chain Performance: a Multivariate Analysis Approach

This research aims to identify the relative importance of economical, operational, and environmental supplier selection and evaluation criteria in the improvement of supply chain performance. As a basis for the study surveyed firms were classified on small, medium and large companies, to analyze them in the global context and according theirs size. A multivariate analysis embracing a three-part quantitative approach was performed to analyze the impact of these criteria on business performance. Results show that soft selection criteria did not rank among the most significant criteria. However, factors such as supplier willingness correlates positively to market share and competitive positioning, what clearly means that suppliers’ strategic commitment is a vital driver for business success. Referring to environmental issues, most supplier evaluation environmental factors bear a positive correlation to performance, in fact the criterion labeled reverse logistics program shows the highest global correlation score with return on assets. Suggestions for future research are also presented.
