Genetic Algorithm Combined with a Gradient Search Method in Solving a Supply Chain Model

This work aims at solving a challenging model with nonlinear quality functions and binary variables. The model integrates quality functions that represent Cost of Quality (COQ). The model minimizes the cost quality along with production and transportation cost. To solve the model the Genetic Algorithm (GA) is used along with a gradient search methodology. The results pave the way for many future possibilities. Now that COQ is integrated as a cost parameter in a supply chain network model, intelligent decisions could be made to reduce quality non-conformance cost while maintaining moderate operational costs.
