Critical Decisions for ERP Integration:Small Business Issues
In this research, we discuss the determining characteristics of small business. We then identify from archive literature six critical decisions (CD) necessary in the process of selecting and implementing an ERP system. These CDs are: (1) Project team structure, (2) implementation strategy, (3) database conversion strategy, (4) transition technique, (5) risk management strategy, and (6) change management strategy. These six critical decisions represent our framework for analysis of ERP implementation for small businesses considering their unique characteristics. The best case scenario is presented for each one of the CDs in the proposed framework; analysis of the framework is based on authors experience and previous research finding on specific CDs as it pertains to small business. Our analysis provides opportunities to identify future areas of research.
