Evaluation of 4PL Operating Models Using a Multi-Criteria Decision-Making Approach Based on the Choquet Integral
Outsourcing in logistics means increasing performance of non-core supply chain activities. Following this, Fourth Party Logistics (4PL) is the evolution of supply chain outsourcing. In order to support the effective usage of 4PL services, this paper examines the 4PL operating models in an analytical context. More precisely, this study proposed a multi-criteria decision-making approach based on the Choquet integral for selecting a suitable 4PL operating model. In the real world, most evaluation criteria have inter-dependent or interactive characteristics so they cannot be evaluated by conventional additive measures. Thus, to approximate the human subjective evaluation process, it would be more suitable to apply a fuzzy integral model, in which it is not necessary to assume additivity and independence. For this reason, in this study, the conventional multi-criteria approach based on the weighted mean has been replaced by the 2-additive Choquet integral. Finally, a case study is given to demonstrate the potential of the methodology.
