A Solution Elements Based Cooperative Assembly System for Mechatronic Virtual Prototyping
In order to catch up with the steps of rapidlychanging markets, the product development period ofmodern mechatronic products has to be as short aspossible. However, mechatronic engineering is basedon the interaction of mechanics, electronics, controlengineering and software. Therefore, inefficientcommunication between the engineers who come fromdifferent disciplines becomes a manifest obstruction foraccelerating mechatronic products design. Furthermore,with increasingly complex mechatronic products, thisproblem becomes even worse. Nevertheless, innovationsin the field of virtual prototyping offer potentialsolutions to this problem. In this paper, we present aconcept for a cooperative assembly and analysis system,which utilizes virtual reality techniques to facilitatevirtual prototyping in a multi-disciplinary workgroup.We also introduce a prototype implementation of theconcept.
