Methodology of Knowledge-Based Process Modeling for Concurrent Product Development
The main purpose of the study on knowledge-basedprocess modeling for concurrent product developmentis to explore the theory and methods on multi-agentarchitecture of PDPM, principle of knowledge-basedprocess modeling, rule-based process implementationand so on, and to integrate the knowledge both into theprocess of process modeling and into the architectureof the PDPM in the lifecycle of the productdevelopment including mainly the acquisition andusage of design history and domain knowledge.Modeling the product development process is the firststep of PDPM. This paper provides an overview onPDPM and modeling methods. The architecture ofmulti-agent based integrated process modeling ispresented including the basic principle and knowledge-based framework of process modeling. The rule-basedmechanism for process implementation is expatiatedincluding the status of process, the status of flow andthe rules of process implementation. The integratedsupporting environment of knowledge-based processmodeling is developed and used successfully during theprocess modeling of a new type of railway rolling stockdevelopment in a Chinese enterprise.
