A Review of Real-time Terrain Rendering Techniques
Terrain rendering is used widely in many 3Dapplications, such as Virtual Reality applications, 3Dgames, flight simulators and geological visualizationprograms. Most of those require terrains to be renderedat interactive rates, so a lot of researches on real-timeterrain rendering have been done.This review provides an introduction to variouscontemporary real-time techniques for terrain rendering.These techniques are classified into two categories: thetechniques based on polygon-models and the ones basedon voxel models. Each category is introduced in a mainsection. In each section, corresponding modeling, texturemapping and lighting methods are involved. In the lastsection, some directions of future work are given.
