A Grid Computing Integrated Distributed CAD System
Existing researches on distributive and collaborativeCAD systems often focus on collaborative requestsubmitting, but not distributive executing. Grid computingtechnology enables a collection of grid computers to gainsuper computation power; and moreover, Web Services isbecoming an increasingly popular framework foraccessing network applications. In this paper we presenta novel architecture for a distributed CAD system -GridCAD, which is integrated with Web Services-basedGrid Computing technology. We introduce the mainmechanism of Server/Client structure and survey thecommunications and data transferring between Serverand Clients. The solutions for model validity maintenanceand requests under collaborative environment alsodescribed. As the most important approach fordecomposing complex operations and distributiveperforming, detailing of Task Manager-the core moduleof Grid Computing is discussed in detail. GridCAD, a prototype system based on Web Servicesand Grid Services, guarantees interoperability onheterogeneous systems so that different types of systemscan communicate smoothly and perform the computationmuch faster than on stand alone machine.
