An Image Compression Method based on Fractal Theory

摘要：

Fractal image compression is a new technique forencoding image compactly. It builds on local self-similarities within images. It has a character of highcompression-ratio and can zoom in or out at will withoutlosing any detail But it has a disadvantage of lengthycompression time unfit for real-rocess and practicalapplication. This paper provides an elementaryintroduction to this compression technique. We surveysome of the advanced concepts such as hybrid methodsand adaptive portioning. Furthermore, we bring aboutheuristic searching algorithm to decrease encoding time.
