Analysis and Comparison of the Two Multicast Error Recovery Mechanisms
Due to the distribution nature and multi-customerinteraction characteristic of the CSCW system, multicastbecomes an ideal transmission instrument. Thus we haveput into effect a multicast protocol named TORM (TotallyOrdered Reliable Multicaso. In order to evaluate itsperformance, we conduct the analysis and comparisonbetween TORM and another multicast protocol, SRM(Scalable Reliable Multicast), in respect of their errorrecovery mechanism. With queuing theory, we establish aqueue model, based on which the expression of errorrecovery latency are worked out. The analytical resultdemonstrates TORM with the higher error recoveryefficiency is often preferable in the CSCW application.Moreover, we simulate the two protocols with NS2, anetwork simulation tool, and get the same conclusion.
