Multi-resolution-based Mesh Registration
This paper introduces a multi-resolution-basedmethod for the accurate and computationally efficientregistration of complex triangle meshes. As an improvedmethod of ICP (Iterative Closest Point), our algorithmspeeds up the convergence. PM (Progressive Mesh) isused as the representation of a multi-resolution mesh. In addition, we present a new method to guaranteethe registration to converge on the desired globalminimum. As we know ICP stars with two meshes andan initial guess for their relative rigid-body transform.When the initial guess is not proper, it may fall intowrong local minima. Our method can find out an initialtransform which lead to a correct registration.
