Application of Genetic Algorithm in Rapid Prototyping
Part-building Orientation(PBO)and scanningdirection of path planning(SDPP))are two tasks ofprocess plan in rapid prototyping technology(RPT).Through investigating the geometric issues of STLmodel and process planning of RPT.This paperestablishes optimizing model based on theconsiderations of staircase effect,support area andproduction time.And then,through analyzing thehatching characteristic of polygonal contours,approximately optimization model of direction ofscanning vectors is established.The best part-buildingorientation is obtained by solving the generalsatisfactory degree function employing geneticalgorithm and the optimal scanning direction is alsosolved by genetic algorithm.Two cases of experimentshow that GA can effectively solve not only thedetermination problem of part-building orientation butalso the optimization problem of scanning direction in RP.
