VIRTUAL REALITY APPROACH TO CONCRETES PATCHY STRUCTURE
This paper presents a virtual reality exploration of cementitious materials on differentlevels of the microstructure. Microscopy observations have revealed the physical existence ofa so-called patch microstructure in concrete. Systematic experimental research into dispersioncharacteristics ofpanicles, such as aggregate grains and fibers on meso-level, and pores andunhydrated cement on micro-lcvel, would be time-consuming and thus expensive. Physicaldiscrete element computer simulation (DECS) by concurrent algorithm-based SPACE systemis an economic and potentially reliable alternative. Paper presents supporting evidence foraforementioned microscopy data and, in doing so, demonstrates the reliability of the appliedDECS approach for predicting dispersion characteristics.
