EFFECT OF DIFFERENT LATICES ON THE PORE STRUCTURE AND MECHANICAL PROPERTIES OF THE MODIFIED SULPHO-ALUMINATE MORTARS

As a result of the less foam quantities and better film-forming properties of emulsifier-freelatex (FL) compared with conventional latex (CL), studies focusing on FL modified mortarsare becoming increasingly important. Until now, few studies have reported the results aboutthe pore structure together with mechanical properties of FL modified sulphoaluminatecement mortars. The aim of this work is to investigate the pore structure and mechanicalproperties of FL modified sulphoaluminate cement mortars. The results obtained have beencompared with that of CL modified sulphoaluminate cement mortars, which allows us toanalyze the effect of different latices on pore structure and mechanical properties ofsulphoaluminate cement mortars. Mercury intrusion porosimetry has been performed to investigate the pore structure andtotal porosity. The experimental results indicate that the total porosity of CL-modified mortarsis higher than that of FL-modified mortars; the mechanical strength of FL-modified mortars ishigher than that of CL-modified mortars except the flexural strength of a CL-modified mortarwith a polymer/cement ratio of 15%.
