USE OF SUPERABSORBENT POLYMERS IN CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS

This paper gives an overview of some of the possibilities which are offered by the use ofsuperabsorbent polymers in construction. Superabsorbent polymers, SAP, have some distinctproperties that make them interesting to use in connection with construction materials. Theseproperties include extreme and reversible water absorption, porosity formation, waterblocking and controlled release of substances. The overview does not cover all aspects of SAPuse, but is focused on topics the author has been dealing with. In particular examples of SAPuse within concrete construction are elaborated.
