DETERIORATION BEHAVIOR OF SUPER-LONG SERVED CONCRETE UNDER INDOOR ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITION
The appearances and performances of concrete and reinforcement of Xiang-Ya Hospitalbuildings, built in 1915, 1935 and 1955 respectively, were investigated at job-site. And thecorrosion of rebar, concrete carbonation of reinforced concrete beams and floor slab elementsand the microstructure of corresponding concretes were tested. Then the deteriorationbehaviours of the super-long served concrete as well as its corresponding mechanisms underspecified ambient condition were analyzed. Results show that the average carbonation depthsof concrete for 90 years, 70 years and 50 years served ages, respectively, were very large andreached 40 mm to 60 mm far beyond the thickness of concrete cover. Corrosion rate of rebarand carbonation depth of concrete were influneced greatly by ambient relative humidity.Compared with dry environment, concrete carbonation depth was obvious larger and severecorrosion of rebar occurs under moisture environment. No corrosion of rebar was observedunder long-term dry ambient though concrete cover was carbonated completely. There werenumerous calcium carbonate in concrete, and some cement clinker particles were still foundin concrete. These results are of great importance for deeply understanding long-termdurability of reinforced concrete.
