Effects of load level on water permeability of concrete
The permeability of concrete is one of the most important factors that greatly influencedurability of concrete, especially permeability of concrete under load which could acceleratethe development of cracks. This study focuses on the water permeability of concrete under 4levels of flexural load (0.7, 0.5, 0.3 and 0 times of crack load fcr). By establishing therelationship between evaporable water content in concrete and electrical resistance, thebehavior of water permeation of concrete under flexural loading and certain water pressurewas investigated with the self-designed device, and the water permeability coefficients underdifferent load levels were obtained by Darcys law. It was found that the flexural loadingstrongly accelerates the permeation of water, and permeability coefficient increasedremarkably with load level when load level exceeded 0.3fcr, especially in the case of lowerwater-cement ratio.
