REVERSIBILITY AND MICROSTRUCTURE OF MnO2 REFERENCE ELECTRODES FOR MONITORING CORROSION IN CONCRETE STRUCTURES
In this paper, the reversibility and microstructure of a novel manganese dioxide electrodebefore and after aging disposal were investigated. Characteristics of electrodepositedmanganese dioxide (EMD) reference electrodes were investigated by examining CyclicVoltammetry, SEM and EDAX in synthetic concrete pore solution after aging disposal in 1mol/L KOH solution or in distilled water. Results indicate that EMD reference electrodesshowed desirable stability and reversibility in synthetic concrete pore solutions at roomtemperature. Further analysis proved that the film deposited at 0.5 V was an amorphous gel-like product which indicated more dense and stable microstructure. Moreover EMD referenceelectrodes after proper aging disposal will obtain a stable mircostructure to resist thedisturbance of Na+ ions.
