THE MELT RHEOLOGY OF WHEAT STRAW FIBER-POLYPROPYLENE COMPOSITES

The melt flow studies were carried out at the temperature of 170℃, 180℃ and 190℃ and shear rate of 0.01 to 0.1 s-1. The melt rheologicai behavior of wheat straw fiber-PP composites showed that the addition of wheat straw fiber to polymer matrix could increase the melt viscosity of composites, as a result of increasing entanglement between the wheat straw fiber and polymer. The viscosity of melt increased when the composites reinforced with fines, due to the increased interaction between the fines and polymer molecules. Among the three treatments, the composites filled with the alkalized wheat straw fiber showed the high melt viscosity due to the strong chemical interaction among polymer and fiber. The introduction of MAPP to the system increased the flow behavior of polymer, and dispersed the wheat straw fiber uniformly, and decreased the melt viscosity. Melt viscosity of the wheat straw fiber-PP composites decreased with increasing shear rates and temoerature.
