Characterization and application of Hg2+ adsorbed gold electrode
The electrochemical reduction of molecular oxygen is a reaction of prime importance in view of its practical application in fuel cell and metal-air batteries. In this paper we reported that using simple and reproducible and stable method to prepare Hg2+ adsorbed gold electrode. The reversible redox peak of Hg2+/Hg was observed on Hg2+ adsorbed gold electrode. The Hg2+ adsorbed gold electrode (Hg-Au electrode) appears sufficiently reducing the molecular oxygen by 4-electron reduction, and decomposes for hydrogen peroxide. In this paper we also investigated that the Hg-Au electrode was apply to the semi-fuel cell (SFC) at room temperature.
