INFLUENCE OF INOCULUM SOURCES ON THE ANAEROBIC DIGESTION OF CORN STOVER
The effect of inoculum source on anaerobic mesophilic digestion of corn stover has been studied. Performance of laboratory scale reactors (V: 2L) were evaluated using four different inoculum sources: (1) dairy manure digested liquid (DAIRY); (2) swine digested liquid (SWINE); (3) corn stover digested liquid (CORN); (4) digested municipal sludge (MUNICIPAL). The corn stover was pretreated by 2%NaOH based on dry matter. Over 60 days operating period, it was confirmed that SWINE was the best inoculum source for anaerobic mesophilic digestion of corn stover. SWINE reactor showed higher biogas and methane production than others. It can achieve 59.46% TS reduction and 61.61% VS removal, and the degradation rates of TC, cellulose, hemicellulose, lignin and hot-water extractives of SWINE were 68.7%, 86.88%, 76.46%, 46.06%, and 54.5%, respectively.
