Enhanced hydrogen production from bio-oil with in situ carbon dioxide capture using calcium-based sorbents
Cost-effective hydrogen production from renewable resources has drawn the attention of many researchers in recent years. In this work, development in steam reforming of bio-oil is reviewed. After that, previous studies related to carbon dioxide sorbent were discussed. Opportunities for enhanced hydrogen production have been demonstrated by research on steam reforming of natural gas or biomass in the presence of calcium-based sorbents. Finally, we report the results of hydrogen production from bio-oil with in situ carbon dioxide capture. When CaO or calcined dolomite is used, an increase in the H2 content from 50%-vol to 85%-vol (dry basis) was observed in both cases. H2 yield increaased from 30% to 55% for CaO and to 75% for calcined dolomite respectively.
