BIO-OILS UPGRADING FOR FUELS OR CHEMICALS: A REVIEW

The quality of bio-oils easily obtained from fast pyrolysis of biomass is quite low due to very complicated compositions. Bio-oils have to be upgraded prior to burning in engine as fuels. The paper briefly reviews the present status of bio-oil upgrading technology for fuels or chemicals, covering different feedstocks-based bio-oil and refined bio-oil properties, upgrading process. The comments and suggestions on further upgrading bio-oil quality with acceptable cost are finally presented.
