EXPERIMENTAL STUDY ON METAL-CATALYZED CO2 GASIFICATION OF BIOMASS CHARS

Effects of alkali (K, Na), alkaline earth (Ca, Mg) and transition (Fe) metals on CO2 gasification reactivity of fir char were investigated by temperature-programmed thermogravimetry on a STA409 TGA. It was shown that the char gasification reactivity was improved through the addition of metal catalysts, and the catalytic effect of the five metals on the char gasification reactivity had the same sequence of K> Na>Ca>Fe>Mg. X-ray diffractometry (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were employed to investigate carbonization degree, crystal structure and morphology of char samples. It was indicated by XRD that Na and Ca were easier to form crystal structure compared with other metals, and that Mg enhanced the degree of carbon structure ordering. Results of SEM analysis showed that there were many spots on the surface of the char samples impregnated with metal catalyst, which played a key role in catalytic gasification process. Moreover, loose patch structure was observed on the surfaces of both K-Char and Na-Char.
